Cancer Research UK is the leading supporter of
cancer research in Britain and the largest
fundraising medical research charity in Europe.
We are the world's leading independent
organisation dedicated to cancer research. We
support a broad portfolio of cancer research
across all the biomedical disciplines.
Cancer Research UK funds over 500 research
groups in British Universities and Medical
Schools, as well as in our own Institutes. The
charity supports research into all aspects of
cancer through the work of more than 4,250
scientists, doctors and nurses, who are working
together to investigate all aspects of cancer.
In the financial year 2007/08 our total
scientific spend was £344 million.
Together we will beat cancer’ is our vision
statement. In order to address this challenge,
we carry out world-class research to improve our
understanding of cancer and find out how to
prevent, diagnose and treat different kinds of
cancer. We ensure that our findings are used to
improve the lives of all cancer patients. We
also help people to understand cancer, the
progress we are making and the choices each
person can make. In addition, we work in
partnership with others to achieve the greatest
impact in the global fight against cancer.
Every year of research improves our
understanding of how to prevent cancer and treat
it more effectively. To find out more about
