
The first CLSS-UK north UK
life science symposium was held in Edinburgh

The first CLSS-UK north UK life science
symposium was held in the Confucius Institute
for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh on
28th June 2008. More than 30 people from
Scotland, Northern Ireland and North England
attended the meeting. The CLSS-UK president, Dr Xu Qihe, traveled from London to Edinburgh to
support the organisation of the meeting.
Professor Ke Youqiang from the University of
Liverpool was invited to give a keynote lecture
on “Identification of genes involved in
malignant progression of prostate cancer cells”.
Other invited speakers include: Dr Zhan Jiasui
from Scottish Crop Research Institute, Dr Liu
Junli from Durham University and Dr Song Bing
from the University of Aberdeen. There was also
a special career development session in the
meeting. Dr Lu Zhiliang from the MRC human
reproduction unit, Dr Xu Qihe, Prof Ke Youqiang
and other senior members provided valuable
suggestions on career development for young
Postdocs and Ph. D students.
The meeting was organised by Dr Hongwu Ma, Dr Yu
Bin from the University of Edinburgh and Dr Song
Chengli from the University of Dundee. The
Confucius Institute for Scotland provided a nice
free venue for the meeting. CLSS-UK provided
financial support and travel assistance for the
participants.
